The Char Dham: A Journey Through the Sacred Himalayas
The Char Dham, signifying “four abodes,” refers to four revered Hindu pilgrimage sites nestled in the majestic Himalayas of Uttarakhand, India. Each Dham holds immense spiritual significance and attracts millions of devotees annually, seeking blessings and liberation.
The four Dhams are:
- Yamunotri: Source of the holy Yamuna River, symbolizing purity and righteousness.
- Gangotri: Source of the holy Ganges River, representing life and salvation.
- Kedarnath: Home to the Kedarnath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva, symbolizing strength and transformation.
- Badrinath: Dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his Badrinath form, signifying preservation and knowledge.

- Eembark on your Chardham journey with a scenic drive to Barkot, a charming hill station nestled amidst the Garhwal Himalayas.
- Breathe in the fresh mountain air and enjoy the picturesque landscapes unfolding before you.
- Upon arrival, check into your comfortable hotel and spend the evening relaxing or exploring the local markets, soaking in the quaint charm of Barkot.
- Overnight stay at Barkot
- Rise early and prepare for an exciting pilgrimage to Yamunotri, the source of the holy Yamuna River. The journey starts with a scenic drive to Janki Chatti, followed by a moderate 6 km trek through breathtaking terrain.( Either by walk or by horse or by Doli at own cost.)
- Witness the majestic views of the Bandarpunch peak and enjoy the invigorating mountain air.
- Take a holy dip in the Janki Kund hot springs, said to possess healing properties, and feel the warmth envelop you. One can cook rice by packing it in a cloth and dipping it in the hot water of the hot kund. Pilgrims take this cooked rice home as "Prasad".
- Reach the Yamunotri Temple, perched at an altitude of 3,300 meters, and offer prayers seeking blessings. Witness the mesmerizing views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks.
- After a fulfilling darshan, embark on the return journey to Barkot, carrying cherished memories of your visit to Yamunotri.
- Overnight stay in Barkot
- Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your hotel in Barkot before starting your journey to Uttarkashi, another significant pilgrimage town situated on the banks of the Bhagirathi River.
- The drive offers stunning vistas of the Himalayas, allowing you to capture breathtaking photos for your travelogue.
- Upon arrival in Uttarkashi, check into your hotel and spend the evening exploring the vibrant local markets or visiting the Vishwanath Temple, seeking blessings for the next leg of your Chardham journey.
- Early morning drive to Gangotri, enroute at Gangnani take a holy dip in Garam Kund, further drive to Gangotri via beautiful Harsil Valley.
- Harsil is famous for its nature beauty and for the majestic views of the Deodar trees, and mountains.
- On arrival at Shree Gangotri, take a holy dip in the sacred river Ganges which is also called Bhagirathi at its origin. Perform Pooja and Darshan, after that relax for some time in the lovely surroundings. Return back to Uttarkashi.
- Overnight stay at Uttarkashi.
- Drive straight to Guptkashi via Moolgarh & Lambgoan. The scenic drive takes you through winding roads and picturesque landscapes, offering glimpses of the majestic Himalayas.
- Enroute you can see the beautiful river Mandakini at Tilwara. The Mandakini river comes from Kedarnath, drive alongside the river to reach Guptakashi. Visit Ardh Narishwar Temple. Arrive Sitapur, Check in Hotel.
- Overnight stay at Guptkashi.
- After medical check-up proceed to Sonprayag, Trek start from Sonprayag to Kedarnath (3584 mts) by pony / Doli.
- Tour members should carry personal medicines, heavy woolen, toiletries and clothes for an overnight halt at Kedarnath. Visit Kedarnath Temple.
- Overnight stay in Kedarnath
- Early morning you get up before dawn and after taking bath you are at the temple by 4:45 am for the 'Abhishek’ to Kedarnath Shiva.
- Everyone can go inside Garbha Griha and touch the idol. You can also prostrate with your head touching the deity etc. After Temple Darshan trek down to Sonprayag. Further drive to Guptkashi. Check in Hotel.
- Overnight stay in Guptkashi
- Embark on your journey to Badrinath, another significant Dham dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Witness the changing landscapes as you drive through valleys and villages, stopping for photo opportunities along the way.
- Drive to Badrinath via Joshimath. Check in Hotel. Later at evening visit Badrinath Temple for Aarti.

- Early morning, pilgrims after having a bath in the Taptkund have the Darshan of Badrivishal.
- Brahamakapal is significant for Pinddan Shraddh of ancestors (Pitrus). There are other interesting sightseeing spot like Mana, Vyas Gufa, Maatamoorti, Charanpaduka, Bhimkund and the "Mukh" of the Saraswati River. Just within the three kms of Badrinathjee.
- Later drive back to Rudraprayag via Joshimath. Check in Hotel.
- Overnight stay in Rudraprayag
- Drive to Rishikesh, the 'place of sages' is a celebrated spiritual town on the bank of Ganga and is surrounded by Shivalik range of the Himalayas on three sides.
- It is said that when Raibhya Rishi did hard penances, God appeared by the name of " Hrishikesh " and this area henceforth came to be known as Rishikesh.
- Visit Rishikesh Temples & Sight Seeing – Laxman Jhulla, Ram Jhulla, Triveni Ghat, Bharat Mandir, Shivananda Ashram.
- Later transfer to Haridwar Railway Station / Dehradun Airport. Tour Terminate
